~ Producer of ‘Dawn of the Planet of The Apes,’ will produce the film with Graphic India and Straczynski, who will write the feature script based on his new graphic novel ~
Los Angeles, CA — July 26, 2014 – Announced at San Diego Comic Con, legendary science fiction writer and head of Studio JMS J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5; Thor, World War Z, Sense8) and digital media company, Graphic India, will work with acclaimed producer, Peter Chernin (‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes,’ ‘Oblivion’) to adapt Straczynski’s upcoming graphic novel, tentatively entitled “Titans” as a feature film.
Commenting on the project, Straczynski added, “I’m ridiculously excited to be in business with Graphic India and Chernin Entertainment on this project. In an increasingly international marketplace, Titans represents the kind of multinational storytelling that will play an ever more important role in both film and publishing. Sharad Devarajan and Gotham Chopra have been extremely supportive of this story, and Peter Chernin is exactly the right person to shepherd this into a successful film franchise.”
When ships from an unknown world crash-land around the world, the Titans on board — massive entities with no memory of where they came from or where they were going — bond telepathically with the ordinary humans who encounter them. The story covers a ten-year span, following these Titans and their humans as the world tries to use them for their own purposes. Some want military superiority, others peace; some want to build cities, others to destroy them. It is a story of terrible wars and great hope, but more than anything else, it is a story about us, the choices we make, and how we use, abuse, or fail to realize our own potential, our own dreams.
Titans is a story about forces so powerful as to be almost beyond human comprehension. But it’s also about us, about the choices we make for good and for ill, and how those individual choices may mean the salvation, or the destruction, of our world.
Sharad Devarajan, Co-Founder and CEO of Graphic India added, “Titans reflects the interconnected world we live in today where one event in an instant can transform the lives of billions. Graphic India is honored to be working with two of the industry’s real life ‘titans’ to take this story into film. Both Peter Chernin and J. Michael Straczynski create the type of epic films and stories that take audiences around the world into a place of wonder, which is perfect for a project on the scope of Titans.”
Peter Chernin will produce the film which has begun development at Chernin Entertainment. Straczynski will write the film screenplay for the project, and through Studio JMS will serve a producing role along with Graphic India founders, Devarajan and Chopra. Graphic India will be launching the digital comic book series for Titans later this year.
Graphic India was formed by comic book company, Liquid Comics and CA Media LP, the Asian investment arm of The Chernin Group, LLC (TCG).
